Barrick Gold Corp. sought to include Xstrata Plc in a lawsuit over the control of a Chilean gold and copper project, claiming Xstrata backed out of a deal to sell the property to Barrick.
Barrick, based in Toronto, asked an Ontario judge for permission to add Xstrata as a defendant in the Jan. 13 suit to block New Gold Inc. from selling the property to Goldcorp Inc.
Xstrata "interfered unlawfully with Barrick's economic interests" and "conspired to injure Barrick," Barrick said in a Feb. 24 filing.
