Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited suspended operations after an employee died in a rockfall accident at the company's Evander No 8 shaft today.
The rockfall occurred at approximately 5:00 this morning in a working place some 2,125 metres below surface.
An investigation involving management and representatives of the Department of Mining Resources will be conducted, the company said.
The Evander operations, which consist of four operating shafts located near the town of Evander in South Africa's Mpumalanga province, produced 33,983 troy ounces in the three months through December.
