Antimony prices are retreating below $6,000 per metric ton for the first time in six weeks on lack of demand from the West, traders told Dow Jones Newswires Thursday.
"Thereļ¼s not a lot of buying in the West and Chinese suppliers are keen to turn the metal into money before the end of the year," a trader said. "This lack of demand is making the Chinese willing to lower their prices."
Prices of antimony, used in the semiconductor industry and for flame-proofing, have fallen by $415/ton in the last three weeks. Antimony 99.65% is currently trading at $5960/ton.
