China produced 1.60 million tons of refined copper in the first five months of 2009, up 5.6 percent from the same period in 2008, according to figures released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on June 11.

The country's refined copper output in May alone stood at 331,800 tons, falling by 1.9 percent from the previous month.

China's refined lead and nickel production in the first five months also saw year-on-year increases, up 20.4 percent and 14.8 percent respectively to 1.36 million tons and 82,558 tons.

However, primary aluminum production dropped by 13 percent year-on-year to 4.62 million tons during the five-month period. The country's alumina output also fell, down 6.1 percent to 8.56 million tons.

Copper concentrate output for the first five months increased by 9.4 percent to 369,500 tons.

The tables below show domestic base metal and base metal concentrate output volumes for May and the first five months of 2009.
