Ukraine scrap suppliers promise unreal figures

In January-September 2005, preliminary data say, Ukrainian exporters reduced their business by 42.5% to 1040 thd. t from 1807 thd. t in the same period last year. September figure was 147 thd. t.

In parallel, a drop occurred in supplies to the domestic market – by 10.1% to 4518 thd. t from 5028 thd. t in the same period last year. Scrap collecting decreased by 18,7% to 5558 thd. t from 6835 thd. t.

According to a representative to the Ukrainian UAVtormet – Ivan Zaitsev – national metal mills submitted a caveat application for 9.1 mln. t of metal supplies in 2006, where the figure cannot be regarded realizable, as forecasts promise just 7-7.8 mln. t for next year, even exports inclusive.
