ThyssenKrupp optimizes steel mill processes

Germany’s biggest steel producer ThyssenKrupp Steel said that it will optimize its steel mill in Bochum by implementing a planning solution from Quintiq.

ThyssenKrupp Steel said that its Bochum plant produces about 4 million tonnes of high grade and stainless hot rolled steel each year. Most of this metal is reprocessed on site to cold rolled thin gauge sheet steel, as well as electrolytic and hot dip galvanized cold strip.

The Quintiq solution, due to go live in the second quarter of 2009, will include inventory and scenario analyses, campaign planning, as well as sequencing for the electrolytic coating line, the hot dip coating line, and the temper mill. It will be integrated with higher level enterprise planning tools so the facility can interact with the rest of the steelmaker’s plants. – Steel Guru
